Hi - New to this forum.
I have this 1916-S Lincoln and was wondering - is this normal for this year. I know the planchet stock was seldom alloyed properly but I thought that only made a woodgrain effect.

From what I can see in your picture it looks like a "lamination" error coin. Another possible error is a "retained Strick through". I think most would come down on the side of lamination error, it is a nice error coin.

Improper alloy mixture also causes what you have - lamination. Some people like them, others avoid them.

There is usually no more of a premium to a lamination unless there is a collector out there that likes them and is willing to pay a few more dollars for it. The size and the severity of the lamination could determine what premium (if any) someone is willing to pay.
There is another thread on this forum that shows some very nice lamination errors. I will see if I can locate it and put the link here for you.

Here is the thread I was talking about in my previous reply. As you can see, lamination errors are varied, and sometimes pretty spectacular.

I personally have no idea of value, I don't follow what people pay for minor errors. I would figure the premium would be small, if any. These things are pretty common.
