A huge gouge or die damage?
I know what you mean, it looks strangely to be the same height and thickness of the stem. Hmmm? Interesting.
Seems like 57-D was a year for bad quality, the one you posted, one we talked about on here a few months ago with a thing like a V under the mintmark, this one, many that I've seen with BIE errors or filled letters and clashes. Maybe just bad quality explains a lot of these but this one is still interesting.

Very nice pictures! This is definitely a deep die gouge. Very interesting in the location of it though.

That is an interesting photo, the way the ?gouge? has so well blended with the true stem.
Bob, I couldn't get the thread to open to thank you guys for letting me know. I knew that it had to be '90, because I was looking at some '82 RPM's, and got to thinking. That must have been why everything went blank!

Dick,
The same thing happened to me. All the other threads were fine but with that one first it wouldn't open then would not let me reply.
I was using aol then I minimized aol and used internet explorer and it worked. I think aol causes that to happen with certain threads.

I don't understand why all the hiccups with the forum all of a sudden. I do know it is old language used to program the thing, and that may account for some of the problems the forum experiences sometimes. Wish I had the answers guys, but I am not at all familiar with all this stuff.

Bob, as you said, it appears to happen on certain threads. In my case, it happens frequently on "coppercoins", It also happened with Mike Diamonds post. I usually find it happening on longer threads, but not always. AOL may have something to do with it, but not all of us are on the "high-priced, but low-effecient" ISP! The internet Explorer, (for me), has been a "bust", because it does things that I don't like! That is why I seldom use it I imagine Chuck can venture an opinion, but is likely very busy, at this time, with getting things ready for the "new Look"!.

Could that have actually been a different form of Wheat? Maybe a Hybred?

ED, I don't know what causes the failure to open certain posts, (and not only Chucks, but others, as well), but this works every tome! Go to the section name, and click on it. It will open all the posts in that thread.

Hey coppersleuth,
Sometimes you get those die gouges in areas that make you look twice then wonder 3 times???

The reason we can assume that it is a die gouge is this: Is any of the pattern around what we are looking affected? If it is a true doubled die, then other parts around the area we are looking at should be affected. If not, chances are its a gouge.
