Thought that I would share this with you people. Can anyone guess what this is?
Yes, it is a trick question.

Hmm.. since it is a trick question, Im saying that the coin is a reproduction of a Buffalo nickel, which happens to show this very strong doubling.

Hi Gabe - no, it is not a reproduction and it does have a true value of 5 cents. One more picture to increase the curiousity.

It is made in the U.S.A. and also used here.

No photo tricks here. Except for a bit of enhancemnet, you are looking at exactly what you would see if held in your hand.

BJ, The indications are that it is NOT an Indian-head nickel. The devices, and date deny that possibility. My guess is that it is a tax token used in some of the states. In AZ, they are red, like the old "meat stamps", and were made of plastic, or something similar.

I like Dick's proposal. A token. I think we are running out of guesses.

One more clue; these are often found along the Mississippi river, however, one eastern state has then and one western state has quite an abundance of them. In all places they are used very frequently.

Must be a token of some sort.
Tax token... Cassino token.... Game token... Bus or Subway token?

BJ, I knew it had to be something like that. I just read the other posts, and your post, indicating what it is. Having never been closer than the USCG station in Memphis, I had no idea it was (is) a gaming token. I wonder if it has "edge-lettering", like the "other Gaming-tokens" being sold by the mint these days? LOL

The clue we should have seen is the dinged up surfaces, looks like every coin you see that spent it's life in machines
