Here is another more questionalble find. This 1915-D shows what looks like an RPM to the northwest but it is also a LDS coin and the details are weak at best. It also looks to have a strong bar under the L of LIBERTY but it might just be a well place die gouge. Any ideas? Steve

This is indeed a doubled die and one that I did an article on in ERRORSCOPE; see 1915D-1DO-001 on this site.
A fast explanation: this particular doubled die may be a true tilted hub type that was caused by a faulty hub collar (wher the hub fits into) for the bar under the L is not isolated to just one die for this year. However, it is not a working hub doubling either. Thurmore, you wil see various "bars" under the L from this date up until 1929, more than likely caused by the same errant tiltted hub collar.
As far as the RPM, there is one for this date , however, it is not in that mint mark position that you show. From your picture it is hard to tell if it is a RPM or not.

Actually, that was an odd ball and I am not to sure if that is a DDO or not. However, these are
If I remember correctly; 1915-D, 1916-D and 1918.

BJ, I can confirm the first one as 1915D-1DO-001, but the second, and third, show no info. They are not the same coin, obviously, from the "L" in all three, being different. Nice photos, BJ. I want mine to look like that some day.

Are the other 2 the 1916-D and 1918-P?
These are coins that I might miss thinking they were only from worn dies. I'll have to start looking closer at those years

As I mentioned before, these are interesting dies that run up to 1929. I am not to sure how many dies were affected or even how many were in one year, although I know of at least three in 1915, all having the Denver mint mark.

PS, yes, the other two are the dated 1916-D and 1918.

Great thread. Great pics also.
I might have tossed a few of those back thinking they exhibited abrasion doubling. Thanks for the heads up and great explanation as I will now add this to the check list.
