I purchased a 1909 Lincoln Cent today. I was wondering if it is a genuine VDB as describe by the seller. Have I been Hoodwinked? There is a slight doubling in the 9's with a die Crack across where the VDB should be. Am I wrong in my question about this coin?

The VDB would not be where you have described or photoed. The VDB on the 1909, if it has it, would be on the reverse near the rim at the bottom.

Steven is right. It is in the area between the wheat stems and the rim. At 6:00 on the reverse. The VDB on the Lincoln cents was missing from the removal of the VDB on the reverse till 1918 when it appeared on the lower bust on the obverse.
Check Chuck book on pages 45 & 46. That might help.

Thank you Steven, Coop, the seller sold me the coin without the VDB. He is sending me a coin in VF+ to me.

I was a bit confused when I received the coin when I posted this thread and very upset about the 1909. Thank you both.

David

Still looks to be a nice coin as the photos go that you posted.
