The advantage of sending a copy of your personal inventory of coins can help in exchanging duplicates. But another way it has helped is this: Ever have your computer lose everything including your inventory of varieties? This happened to me once and I had sent Gabe a copy of mine and he came to my rescue when my computer died. Well, guess what? His did the same thing and I had a copy of his inventory to return to him when his died. Even though I had a copy of his dated 2004 and another one 2005. It is better to have an old copy rather than starting all over again. So share yours with a friend. You never know when YOU might need it back.

I always have mine on my computer and forget to save a copy for myself. You think you would remember it, but you seem to over look it and your always glad to get your inventory back when you lose it... Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

I don't know anyone I would trust with a list of my coins.
All my coins are on a Excel spread sheet. I put each Album on a separate sheet. With 97 Albums, a few sheets for the 8 boxes of 2x2's, many rolls of uncirc. Notebooks full of Proofs.
I then print out everything. Approximately 1" thick pile of paper and then back it up on a 3 1/2" floopy and one of those little things you plug into a USB port.
I do the same with all documents and items.
If computer crashes, nothing lost.

I can appreciate that you don't want everyine else to know what you do have. But the list I was speaking of was Varieties and extras that we have. I would work backing up from time to time, but some how I forget and other also. So even an old inventory is better than starting from scratch. It works out OK when you remember to back it up. when a computer starts giving trouble that is when you remember to do this. But when it just up and dies on you, you don't have that opportunity. So I guess sending inventories to friends and keeping an updated copy on disks at home is the correct answer. What I have besides the varieties are between me and the books I store them in. But appreciate your comments. It helps others to remember to save often.

Im almost done with mine and will send you a copy when its complete i just have to put the condition and how many extra i have from 59 up on the rpm list and then ill start on the doubled die list then the monumentle task of inventorying bu rolls and bags i have. Im not looking forward to that 1 even though i have a close 1 done on paper to 89. I have a bad back and carrying the boxes up and down the stairs and from the closet and getting them from under the bed and from the spare room cabinet just kills me. I might do the other denomination variety lists first. With summer coming to and end you guys will be hearing alot more from me. I also have been working on a write up about 1960-1MM-011. I bet most of you have them in your tubes im almost positive i do just have to do the layover to make sure. When im done i plan on posting my finds with pics. NCADD never responded to my request to use there pics to publish but i have scanned them to do a layover and will put my own up.

Coop, and those of you who have some experience playing around with computers, you know that when the "old reliable" dies, the first thing you do is panic, (because you didn't "back-up yet). Not to worry. All you need is any old unit that is working properly. Just plug in the hard drive, as a second HD, and all is available! ( I save ALL old hard drives).
Now if some one formatted the hard drive.......No, let's noe even think about that!
You could also have a setup with RAID. That gives you a "spare HD", with everything on it. Just a thought.
CarlB, In your case, I think a "burner" would be your best bet!, (and a secretery). Rolling Eyes

Not soon enough, but some time in the near future I plan to add a feature to this website where you will be able to keep your die variety have/want list in the database on the server here. No more having to swap files, etc. You will be able to direct collectors to your needs on the site.
