I'd like to see a circ grade 55 DDO too.
It seems most were found in AU, now many are cleaned so all I ever see is cleaned AUs and brown AUs and a few RBs and Reds. I've never seen one below an AU50!
Hard to imagine something like that being spent as a cent Surprised

I'll give it a try as soon as this heat lets up a little. Hi temps and very high humidy makes it hard for me to breath. I have one that looks about AU or less and is dark brown so may be hard to photo.
As to a coin like that being spent. Back in the 50's there were not to many coin collectors and a coin that looked funny just didn't matter. Try to imagine a time when the Red Book was the only book and was only out for a few years and not much circulation. We used to play a game called lagging Cents at lines between the concrete squares in the sidewalks here in Chicago and no one ever looked to see if a coin was a double die since no one knew what that was. Pennies(cents) were put on RR tracks, Street car tracks, thrown at cars from bridges, shot at with guns, thrown in fountains and wishing wells, drilled out for a ring, etc. And no one looked at the dates, mint marks, double images, blank front or backs. They were just pennies back then.

Carl, maybe I should try that application. I don't get any results out of Photoshop, in spite of all the help everyone has given. Some things just don't "ring the bell"!

Dick: There are a lot of really easy to use photo programs out there. My son gave me that photoshop7 thing. It was part of something called Adobe CS and the directory alone made my head spin. People told me to just try Photoshop Elements since it is part of this CS thing, but no idea of what they were talking about. Then, due to my son a computer person, I added Photo Suite, Picasa, Microsoft Picture it, a few others and now Photobucket. Nice to have two hard drives of 200gigs each. Filling up with stuff I have no idea of what to do with.
However, I only use a program called Photoworks. It used to be distributed by a company called Seatle Filmworks and was only $15 plus S&H and many years ago. I've seen 5 year olds use it so that is for me. I guess at my age simplicity is the best and this program is just that.

That blue toning on the 55 DDO seems to be pretty common. Mine has some on both sides. Most descriptions Ive seen mention blue toning. JRocco, I saw your coin on the PCGS cert verification page. Why that coin is not considered red/ brown is a mystery.

Hey Garry,
The coin is a red/brown coin but PCGS wants me to send it in again for an upgrade which I do not want to do.

Carl, I gave up on the phoyo apps, because I can't seem to get anytrhing to come out right! I get lost, and end up starting over, then get lost again. I don't use any of them, now. the photos I post are raw, just like the photo came from the camera, which is actually what happens. With my vision problem, I'm lucky to even get it in a decent focus.

They may want to correct the color error they made. Or who knows?

Because I am not looking to sell this coin and I don't need the label at this time. I would rather keep my money that would go to PCGS for shipping/insurance and re-grading. This coin should be in a slab for authentication and protection, it has both those now.

PCGS makes A LOT of money getting a second shot when the coin should have been given the proper label the first time around-I just don't want to give them any more at this time Laughing

edited to add-Thanks coop for adding my avatar.

Here is a suggestion. Check out cameras with chageable image sizes. Then you can set it for a small size. If your computer is running slow, check out a free program called CLEAN UP for windows. It will clean up all sorts of junk that slows your computer down.

CarlB, I have several digital cameras, with different sized photos. I like the 320X240. It gives a medium sized photo to post, and not have to scroll, and"skid sideways", to see all on it. That hasn't been the problem. I get into one of the different applications, (I have photoshop 7, and severak other ones that I have tried to work with, but I get lost, and have to start over, many times, so I just try to get the best photo, and post it that way.
I never heard of that program. Where did you find it? I'would like to give it a try on my units, (3).

Sorry Dick and sorry to everyone for eating up space here.
Dick, I thought everyone knew and used CleanUp. Everyone I know uses it including the guy that made my computer. It's free and works fatastic. You could find it in Google by just typing in CleanUp or go to www.stevengould.org
I use it everytime I log out of the internet. If you haven't cleaned your computer of all the junk, cookies, temps and little hidden things, you'll be shocked at how much that program gets rid of. I've used it over 500 times.
