1979-P Near Date SBA

Hmmm.... I searched the site for a reference to the SBA coins and found only one and that was dealing with a 1979-S Prrof Type 2. But here is another ones to watch for and probably a sleep as everyone hates the SBA coins. It is a 1979-P Near date. The date is closer to the rim than a regular SBA. I bought one years ago and just now getting to taking images of it. Enjoy.

Coop. I think the SBA'a are interesting, although they were never accepted to any degree. Regarding the "near date-wide rim", I tried to differenciate between the two terms to identify what was being said, and came up with notjhing, frankly. I also tried ti measure the rim, and the deparation from the bust, and/or rim to determine which was which, to no avail. An overlay would teoo very quickly, which is the case. I think the rim thickness is the actual determining factor. What do you think?

When I get stamps, handful of 'em at a time, I go to the stamp machine at the post office and I put a twenty in. The machine gives me 17 dollars or so when it dispenses the stamps, including SBA'S and Sacajawea. Last year I got a slew of 2000 Sac's that were roll fresh, and very crisp. BU 65-66 or so. So if you really want SBA's or Sac's on the cheap, think stamp machines.
65 or 66 is pretty good for a buck.

I see I am not the only one who buys a stamp, with a twenty-dollar bill! That is how I have nearly filled my SBA floder, and THey put the screws to us when they quit circulating the SAC's! I still get them in rolls from the bank, so it just takes a little longer. Seeimg as how coop was so nice to put the both sizes up, I decided an "overlay" would tell the tale. It does: The rim isnot the same size. TThe date has been moved a bit closer to the rim.. Now I have to use some acetone to clean my monitor!
Using an atrist grid, I find:
Bust to rim: Normal, 3-1/2".Rbust to top of "9":1".
Rim thickness:5/8"
Tail of "0" to rim:1/2'
BUST TO RIM:3-1/4"
BUST TO "0": 1"
RIM THICKNESS: 3/4"
TAIL OF "0" TO RIM:1/4". Looks like they changed the bust, the rim, and the numbers stay the same size, but were moved 1/4", (on this post, and set of photos). Hmmmm, now who is on first?
