"I remember all the movie theaters, nasty places on South Dearborn and State we were not supposed to go. "
Wow, that brings back memories. I grew up in the Humbolt park area just off of California & Division. Left in 71' and went back once for a couple of days in 89'. It looks a lot different.

Haven't been picking very long, but so far I have found a clashed die & couple Wide AM varieties that is nice. Also found a '58 wheaty (my Favorite coin so far) that is simply a beauty.! couldn't believe it was circulated.. I have "for sure" found enough to say im hooked.!

Yea, Rock all those places are gone. I cant say I did not sample some of those places. The downtown area has lost alot of character over the years. But I still enjoy going there.

Welcome aboard CP. You are just starting to make that long journey on what to collect. Make sure you have a lot of space, it takes over very quickly.

Thanks guys/gals (??).. Man are you right.! I have already accumulated 2 large bank bags of lincolns after only a little more than a month of hunting..
I have been thru these coins twice, but I keep learning of new varieties & errors to look for so im sure I could search them again & find something I missed the other 2 times.. I think ill hang around here & perhaps buy some books before searching them again.! I kinda lost the "excitment of the hunt" after the second time I searched the hoard.
Thanks,CP

Speaking of gone. Did you ever go to the 5th floor of Carsons. The coin/stamp/etc counter there was the cheapest place on Earth to buy coins. One sales guy, Steve I think, would also sell you some of his own coins when the boss wasn't looking. Carlsons in now gone as well as most of the real Chicago.
Unfortunately that place on Clark Street for coins is still there.
How did you like the Wacker Drive reconstruction? I was an Electrical Inspector for that for a few years.
I think there was a coin shop also possibly on Randolph but just can't remember for sure. Old age you know.

If you go there today, make sure you have a bullet proof vest. Also, if you can't speak Spanish??????????

I never went to the 5th Floor of Carsons to that shop, but I did go to the shop in the basement of Fields. Not much there either. No coin shops on Randolph. How long ago were you an electrical inspector Carl?

I thought about this long and hard as there are really sooo many awesome Lincoln varieties. I think that if I had to choose, I would pick the 55 DDO-002. I remember pulling out this coin and looking at it a few times before I believed I was really seeing this variety in this early a die state. These are usually really tough because as the die state progresss they get really tough to see clearly.
What made my day even better was when Bob and Chuck asked me if they could use this coin for pics on this site. Man, am I a variety weenie or what???
