Interesting. The die flow is NW to SE. The older die Scratches Flow NE to SW. There is no evidence inside the mint mark that something is going on there. The serifs show no marks on them. Kind of looks like a combination of die flow and older scratches forming this die erosion line. It does look strong, but the definte shape is missing for a RPM. Probably Bob or Chuck will have to make their assement. Possibly an oler cleaning started the line moving and wear is making it continue. Interesting.

I am pretty well convinced that it is a die gouge.

Did you ever notice the RPM book lists 1972-D #9, 10, 15,16,17? If you look at them in the book I feel they are mintmark damage and not RPMs.

"The Roll Zone?" I can relate to that....

Every once in a while I come up with a good one. Rolling Eyes

I don't have the rpm book, Sad Sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad
I found it on Ebay for $50.00 or the guy's web site for $35.00, the web site was sold out. Shocked

I don't make money on my coins so I can't justify $50.00 for a book.

CONECAs 1972D RPMs 009-017 have been rejected as a damaged mint mark punch. This is annotated on their web site.

Well sometimes you lose and other times you really loose. This is a hobby and sometimes you make money, but nothing in comparison to the time spent. I'm going to go back through my old rolls to see if they have grown anything I missed the other look. Wink Wink Wink

Good idea looking again, eyes might have been tired or just didn't see it the first time, like rereading a good book. Very Happy
