It is a RPM. If it were a broken punch they would be common on several different dies that year. (IE: 1979-D Most of the 79-D has the broken lower serif. Harder to find one that isn't punched with broke punch than finding them with the broken punch.) The mintmark on yours might be called a tilted I believe from what I see. Or it could be a West as strong as it is on your coin. But I'm guessing it would be listinable if it already isn't listed. You might check the Search the Site to find a match for it. If it isn't there Bob might be interested in it. When looking for RPMs remember this rule. Location first, seperation of the RPM second and third markers. Markers come and go and you can have a Cent with the same markers but the location/seperation is different. I like die gouges as markers best. Die scratches unless they are very strong, tend to go away fast. Hope this helps.

I've been trying to figure out which one it is. My pics/coin look different. I might post the whole coin.

No need for the whole image of the coin, just all of the date and mintmark area will do.

Definitely an RPM, no question about it. Pretty minor, but definitely an RPM.

I wasn't sure about being an rpm until I asked and I seen your site. I haven't found any major ones except the 54s. Smile

I found a 1958-D with heavy die gouges/die deteriation. The worst I think I've seen before.

Coop - those are just gouges...not deterioration. Outstanding marker, though.

John: Hard to miss those markers... Even a blind person could feel them.

Sort of reminded me of this 57-D that has the same sort of V shaped thing below the D.

I could not find the posts but someone posted one and I had one from the same die.
