A very unusual type of storm rolled through here today and gave a bunch of people a chance to see a tornado in action.

The unusual part about this one is that it came out of a rain-free base that was situated in a position so as to have sunshine behind it close to sunset. This gave a number of people east of the storm a spectacular view of little funnels, big funnels, and the like.

I saw a live shot from the TV channel's 'tower-cam' toward the west, and piled the family in the car and went for a drive. 30 miles north of here at 6:27PM, we got what we set out for - my mother, my girlfriend, her son, and my son got to watch a tornado from development to fall-apart; all of about two minutes, but it was COOL!

Unfortunately I was driving the car, and my mother was driving the camera...photos are a little less than revealing. A bit shaky.

Anyhow, some people were in a better predicament to video and photograph the storm. Before you go there and see, all of these were from the same storm, all within about an hour of one another - between 6PM and 7PM. The storm moved at 70MPH, so chasing it was a challenge.

Anyhow, here..

One of your tornadoes was on the weather channel Chuck. It was a view from Cox South (hospital??) Very cool shot.
We are having severe weather here today. We had two doppler indicated tornados in the Fort Walton/ Destin area, and numerous water spouts reported. We don't care too much for those, but are sure appreciating the heavy rain with this system. Average rainfall this year should be 58.06 inches. Total so far....24.31. Very dry.
Stay safe!!

Looks like a little more swinging out of southern Kansas that may be headed your way Chuck. Pretty much just wind and spot showers over on this side of the state. 3:42pm 10-18-07.
