i just acquired 7 rolls of 1961 BU lincolns. The first 10 coins all have what appears to be broken hub 9. Can you tell me if my assumption is correct. If so I will find the same thing on probably all 7 rolls. Also is the notch in the 6 stem the same cause. Thanl You.

Duh. I just looked at the D mint coins on coppercoins and some of the 9s look similar to what I have so I assume that solves that question but it does not answer it.

Lucky,
You did indeed answer your own questions. The 1961 Lincolns did have what appears to be a broken hub on the 9 of the date, but this is NOT prevalent on all the coins. In addition, the notch on the 6 of the date is also quite common. For your info also, there is master die doubling on 1961 cents. This normally shows on the top of the O in GOD. You need to be careful on these though as there is a couple of nice doubled die obverses. I would discount the 9 and the 6 as nothing more than the norm for 1961 cents.

Thanks Bob for the verification. To push the element a little more on the 9 of one of the coins the tail appears to be doubled to the south about a third of the thickness of the number. There appears to be no split at the end of the tail but it is doubled in a manner unlike the others. Does that ring any bells of recognition? Thanks

Doesn't ring a bell Lucky. There was a doubled/tripled tail of the 9 on 1960 dated cents, but I am not familiar with them on 1961 cents. Could you possibly snap a picture for me? If it is anything, maybe the pic will help me remember.

The 1961 Lincoln that I have appear to have doubleing in one area or another on Every coin that I have checked. This Pie is too big to eat with out some help. Does anyone have an early strike without any doubling that they are willing to part with? lucky2

A lot of 1961 cents have some form of minor doubling on most areas of the obverse. The real trick is picking through the mess and figuring out which are machine doubled, which are master die doubling, and which are true hub doubled dies. Not an easy task sometimes.
Doubling in "GOD" is usually master die doubling and is very common. Doubling at the top of the 6 in the date is the same thing.
1961 has a few known doubled die obverses, but they are minor and rather uneventful.
