This year was the earliest I've ever filed; the end of January. Got my refund the first part of Feb. Much joy.

I filed early too and got a refund. I also prepare tax returns for people. Did not do too many this year, about a dozen paying customers and 6 free ones. So it was slow. I need to market myself better.

What do you have to do to be a paid preparer? I've done friends returns and been a VITA rep in the past, but it'd seem to be pretty easy money for the most part.

It would be my recomendation that if your doing taxes for friends etc that you do not want to register as a tax accountant and be obligated to sign the tax papers. There are obligations to this if the taxes are wrong. My daughter does my tax figures but not the form. I just sign them and take the responsiblity as if I had done it all. Then if there is a problem she is not responsible to anyone but Daddy. LOL
