If i had just seen the first image of the reverse I would have said Die Gouge. But after seeing Stevens image of the same thing, but just thinner. I would say a die break. The first image seem like an expanding of the die dreak making it wider. Also one fact that makes me say that. The die break on Stevens coin is not straight, uneven like a crack but getting wider with age. So that is why I came to my conclussion of the die break rather than a die gouge. what ever it is, it looks interesting and would probably get snapped up by "Newbies" there. Just an educational piece to me. Its not a variety as ever die would of had to make that from the first strike to qualify. So it as die break that ages with continued use. Another "cute-sie" named die error.

Geez, this is too much like winning the lottery. I'll keep trying but my eyeballs are taking a beating Thank you for the explanations guys. Got another pic coming up if someone could just give me the right term for it. I know there is no value but want to card it just the same.

I believe I had seen them refered to as "cracked heads". If I am not mistaken probably a '55 wheat. I have seen several being auctioned and some got a bit of a premium. I would not have paid for one just due to a die crack though. There are some much more dramatic cracks than this one. The mint must have used these dies up to the shattering piont. I have quite a few but I think I just rolled them up without setting any aside or getting photos for reference.
I really wouldn't think much more about them than as a die marker. My own opinion though. Others may think differently about these.

Steven, far be it from me to argue, but that looks very much like a lamination. I could be wrong.

I think that I agree with Dick on this one - it does lookmore like lamination break than a die break. However, it may be just the way the light is focused on the crack.
If it appears to have a layered peeling off look, then it is a lamination fault. If it is a ridge, then it is a die crack.

I think Dick and BJ got it right, it looks like it would peel off. It does show up in the same spot as the head cracks but this one looks more like a lamination error.
Don't try to peel it off, it's best if you let it stay like it is.

Hi thank you all, this one looks like I could push my finger nail under and lift the edge. I have 3 or 4 others which are different dates but the characteristics on this is different, the others looks like the edge of the "crack" meets the field but this one doesn't.
