1988 D Struck through scrap?

I have heard on another topic 1988's a rarer in BU. I sort 1-3000 cents a week for copper. I have been sorting steadily for about 3 years. Lately though I have been pulling out also all 1982's & 83's, and BU 84's & 88's. I came across a 1988 d with half of the obverse raised and cracked like cleavage on a rock, it looks like it could be pealed away but it looks like it is not just plating but also Zinc connected to it. The overall condition is average circulated with all plating 100% no zinc showing through, and toned your average brown dull red. Any opinions expressed are greatly appreciated. If you think it is worth it I will upload a Pic. Thanks.

Cannot wait to see the picture. With a metallurgical background, I would love to guess just one and then find out we called it right from the experts here on the board! I guessed on the wavy steps being a sloppy machine issue, so I'm ready for my next SWAG!
