For lack of anything new to search, I started going through some of my foreign coins to check for varieties. This German 2 Mark coin caught my attention. Doubling is evident. But in some places, it looks like MD, other places, die deterioration, and in some spots like a DDO? Perhaps it is some combination of any of these. What are your thoughts?
The "I" in HINDENBURG seems to show notching of a DD -- of perhaps even a TDO.
And as we all know, you should never forget to turn the coin over. If the doubling on the obverse is questionable, the doubling on the reverse of this coin is not. There are plenty of notches to indicate a true doubled die.
So as not to offend anyone, I did not show the infamous symbol of the regime NAZI that is present on this coin -- but FYI - it too is doubled.

I also found this 1914 German 1 mark coin in my collection. It is clearly a DD (look at those doubled claws!). With all the fine detail and sharp points in the design, there is obvious doubling just about everywhere you look on about 1/2 of the coin. I have no idea if DDs rare or common on German coins, but it is pretty darn cool to me.
The coin is about the size of a US quarter dollar. I wish I could find a nice Washington quarter with such signficant and widespread doubing.
