My 9 year old daughter has shown an increasing interest in my favorite hobby over the past year. She never forgets to have me check her change and always asks lots of questions. In recent months she has spent a lot of time watching me search and wanted to start searching for herself. So I bought her a dozen rolls (actually, half were for me), sat her down in my spot and let her go. And eventually she did pick out a couple of new 2005 5c Ocean in View DDRs. Ribar just listed them on his site as WDDR-056 and WDDR-057...

I'd had some luck with nickel rolls from this source before -- so I knew she stood a good chance of finding something. But I didn't know they'd be new ones. She is pretty darn pleased with herself and excited to see her name listed as the discoverer of two new varieties.

Of course - dad is proud, too. That's my little girl!

Ken - That is indeed great news and congratulations to your daughter. If you will, send me the particulars (daughters name, when found, die number, State , etc.) for I would like to do a piece in ERRORSCOPE on her finds.

It is important that we as a community help our YNs develope an interest in this great hobby of ours. To many of the kids now a days, collecting is not the in "thing", unless it is the latest rap CD or the newest video game or the newest line of clothes that some teen heart throb movie star wears.

When Jeanie and I attend the CFCC meetings, there are far to few YNs in attendance, yet those who do come seem to enjoy the experience. Hopefully, they will bring this like into adulthood.

Anyway, GREAT going Ken and especially to the keen eyes and knoweldge that your daughter has.

BJ

Thanks for the preview of the Errorscope article on Kelsey's finds. Now she thinks she is 'famous'. And Wexler did contact me about taking over the reigns on a CW piece.

Thanks again. I hope it inspires a few more youth into the hobby.

My own daughter in CoinWorld magazine! How cool is that? Cool

She took my issue of CW to school yesterday for show-and-tell. She thinks she is quite the star. Anyway - the kids asked "What's a doubled die?" -- and my daughter did her best to explain.

This has been a fun experience. Thanks BJ for getting the ball rolling on this.

Now that is very cool. Congrats to Kelsey on making the 'big time'. I hope she inspires many new Young Numismatists.
