I’ve had these coins since the 1970’s they are from a shipwreck; I could sure use a little help identifying them, both are about the size of a quarter, one is silver and the other is copper.

If they are real they are Spanish. Other than that there's nothing I can help with. Robert is the person who stops by that would probably be of most help here.

These are authentic -- I just can’t remember what they are, apparently I placed them in the wrong box years ago , I had a small log book on all of my coins years ago but that’s long gone.

Here ia a "cob", (cabo de barra), "end of bar" that is of silver, and is 8 reales, dated 1632, and minted in San Luis Potosi. I don't know if it is authentic, or not. I have had it for more than 50 years. I don't "recognize" the two coins in the photos above. They seem to be of "Spanish origin, but for which colonies? The one with the "V" cannot be "reales, because the 8 Real coin was only broken into smaller bits: 4, 2, and 1 , then 1/2/, 1/4, 1/8. the Pillars indicate the "boundries" of the Spain, and "all outlying areas, "Plus Ultra".

Apologies for not responding sooner. I just got back from out of town.

I think (but I'm not 100% sure) that the first coin is a 2 real coin of Mexico under the rule of Carlos and Juana (or Joanna). A similar 1 real coin is the 4th coin down on this page:

http://www.mexicancoinmagic.com/01%2001%20Volume/10-%20mexican%20photo%20album%20V1%20I1.htm

A 2-real coin would weigh about 7 grams (almost 1/4 ounce) and a 1-real coin would be 3.5 grams. A 4-real coin would be 1/2 ounce (the size of a half dollar, roughly).

There were two series of C&J coins. The first don't have ocean waves between the columns. Yours has the waves, and is therefore the second series. That would put it from about 1542-1572.

On the shield side of the coin, to the right, is an "L" or possibly an "I". This identifies the assayer. To the left of the shield should be another letter, which should be an "M" for Mexico City or possibly another letter for another mint. I can't tell what that letter is. Can you?

I can't figure out which way is up on the other coin (copper I think).

That's the best I can do for now.

The letter to the right is I , and the one on the left side appears to a M
I’ll try and get better pictures of the copper coin.

Very nice coins on your link
The copper coin is in rough shape and I am not sure which way to turn it, but it looks better at this angle.
