I am going through several rolls of unsearched cents I just bought and I found a 1931s(vf+/ef) so far and this steel cent, among several others that appear to be rpm's,ddo's also.Anyone have any ideas on which rpm this is if it is one.It has a nice spread to the east and also some on the upper loop to the left It looks like #10 on the site. Also has a nice die crack through the forehead and another from the left of the eye through the cheek to the top of the earlobe to the edge of the hairline.I know my pics aren't great with my scanner as the scope I was using isn't compatable with my new computer with Vista.Any comments will be appreciated.Thank you as I am a newbie here.

Off hand I would say that it is die deterioration doubling and not a RPM, however, the picture is not to clear and in hand analysis may show that it is a RPM.

Ken, I agree with BJ, but I think I also see a bit of "something', that could make it an east-south-east. If that be the case, it could be the 1943S-1MM-004. "Grasping for straws".

Reprossing coins from that year makes the coins look like a higher grade. What also happens is that the regular devices of the coin are accented. Making something that wasn't there appear to be there on non reprocessed coins. But the direction of the doubling conserns me. A doubled Die and a RPM going the same direction is an indicator of something might not real be there. This year was know for excessive wear on the dies. Why? Because the Steel to Steel contact. The dies cracked/clashed/wore a lot faster than other years. Some digits like the 4 on your coin were missing. So I'm guessing die wear from what I see in your coin. Like BJ said, better images may help.

Hello Guys,Thank you for your thoughts on this one.My scope is not compatable with my new computer,so this is the best I can currently do for pics right now.I'll set it aside with others and when i get a new scope I'll post new pics.It doesn't look reprocessed as it is a dull gray with some luster present.Thank you again as this newbie needs your expertise on this part of the collecting field.
