I know that typically profile doubling is Machine doubling, but because this is limited to under the nose and the ear was effected I wanted to ask prior to ditching it.

I may not alway's be right. I have seen the same thing on this coin. Wait it out. Check out my 1943 D Post and you will see what I mean.

You got this one right it's MD. Keep looking there's a neat 84-D and some 84-P DDOs out there
1984 is a good year for doubled dies, don't just look for the doubled ear! Here's an old post with some of them:
1984-D
1984-P
This is one of the most under-rated zinc cent varieties, it has nice doubling all over the obverse:
I think there's also another (and probably more) 84-P variety that I don't have and it's Coneca die-3 which has a wide liberty and motto.
