dansco vs. intercept

we've got a big spender at the shop that has ZERO faith in the RED factor.. he has all the big keys (lincs and indians) in MS, but he refuses to buy into the RD thing.. he prefers browns. "those albums are all made of cardboard, of course they'll morph.." what he says means something to me, but i like red. and i've got a lot of money into that color so i need them to last.. forever.

intercepts seem to be the best albums, based on the hype they advertise, but i'm sure danscos aren't exactly garbage (slabs and airtites would be the best way to keep them i guess, but i like them displayed all together)

intercept = $50, dansco = $25. are they really that much better? is it worth it?

I've had coins in Intercept albums for years and haven't noticed any change (pun intended). If you look around the internet you can find them for just about the same price as Danscos.

i bought one, hope it's that much better than dansco.. what they've been in. got it for $40..

I havent seen any Intercept products over the counter recently. I have never seen albums. I am using Dansco and Littleton albums to store sets of State Quarters. The Dansco is easier to work with, but the coins in both folders are starting to tone in a russet color, which usually is not very interesting. If I happened to see an Intercept album when I started the State Quarter collection, I definitely would have tried it. When I have some time I may go thru the excess quarters I have collected and try to put another together in an Intercept album.

yeah my jeffs and quarters have developed that same thing.. mostly the proofs.. that funky brown thing, in just 2 years. i wonder if the same thing would've happened with intercepts.. ?

All my quarters dated between 1999 and 2004 in the three albums have started to lightly tone a russet color and the lustre has dulled. I hesitate to call it lustre. A pristine state quarter looks like an overdipped silver coin in my opinion. Wink

Gription, Thanks for giving a "time-frame", concerning your quarters. I have been active, (again), for just over two years, and most of my coins are from this time, (not age). I have Dansco for my SE, and whitman for everything else. I just checked the Dansco, and everything is very nice. No indication of any changes. I wonder if the "climate" has anything to do with the changing of the lustre, etc? I am in So. CA, and about90 miles, ( as the crow flies), from the ocean. None of my folders seem to show any changing of tone, etc.

My state quarters are acting like Garry described.

They seem to get tone faster than others clad coins, can't explain it. They look nice but not like they did when I put them away. The Ark quarter is a toner now, some red and blue hue on it already. And I'm in a dry area.

I do see that the corner coins on each page seem to do it faster in any book. I'm guessing if you seal the set in something more airtight it might slow it down.

I bought some square soft quarter tubes and stored quarters in them for about a year and the ned ones turned hazy. so I put them into the square tubes and they are find in there. The Cents I haven't noticed any change, just the quarters.
