Per Coin World (Aug 2), they were found in Ft Lauderdale, Florida. The article shows pics, which look to me like the real deal.

Look for doubling at the tail of the "2" and at the serif at the crossbar of the "4".

It covers the "entie obverse design".

Yes, the coin shows doubling in all of the obverse edge elemets. If also shows doubling in the designer initials and in the eyebrow of Jefferson (these pics arent shown in the article) The coin has been attributed as a true doubled die by CONECA, Billy Crawford, Ken Potter and soon by John Wexler. It has been added to CONECA as 1-O-IV.

I discovered the coin in change, as said in the article, and was amazed to see the doubling.

Anyways, the concentration of this variety appears to be in the south, since a second example has also been discovered and was also discovered in Florida. Lucky me! Hope I can get my hands in some more.

Here is a link to Billy Crawford's pics. Some of them were used in the CW article. His pics are great!

Congrats Gabe!

I didn't put two and two together... I didn't realize that's who you were.

How did you find it? Did it look "odd" or did you methodically search many nickels?

I got it in change in a Home Depot, and looked at it under my 16x because it was my first peace nickel in change and was interested in looking at it with my loupe. I almost never check nickels for varieties, I always check cents. I guess I just got lucky!

I'll say you got lucky!

Must be great being the discoverer of a variety (and a significant one at that) Cool

So did you go out and buy several bags of nickels?

I'm sure we'd all be interested to know the location of the Home Depot.

Congratulations.
