Lucky, I'm looking at a copy of Rick Snow's Indian Cent attribution guide. The doubling on the base of the 1 looks like the Snow 10 or Snow 15 variety as the doubling seems to extend up the right side of the 1. Is that correct? Is there any doubling on the 4 at all? S-10 has doubling on the top of the 4 and S-15 has doubling above the horizontal bar of the 4.

Well thats an interesting comment Gabe. I think that in the areas of Morgan Dollars and Indian cents, the word doubling is used rather loosely. I dont think there is much thought given to whether it is hub doubling or machine doubling. There are obvious hub doubling examples on the indian cent. The 1873 Doubled Liberty being a famous example. But, generally doubling is used generically.
Lucky: I have to look at the attribution guide again, if there is no doubling on the 4.

Just remember that hub doubling cannot happen on the date of an indian cent. The dates were punched in (like mintmarks) after the hubbing took place. In other words, the hubbing press finished off a dateless die, and the date was hand-punched later.
