Hi Carol,
This is an open forum where many of us exchange ideas and thoughts. Don't feel intimidated to post here or on any other forum.
This looked to me like a few of the "assisted" errors that have slipped out of the mint from years gone by. Mike has confirmed otherwise. He is also one of the people that I do not question because he is at the top of this food chain.
He, Fred Weinberg and a few others have done their homework through the years and deserve the recognition that only comes from being the best.
I am glad that your coin falls into the "true error" category and I am always happy when a fellow collector has a nice score-as you do.
Congrats and good luck,
John

| I am sorry I did not have enough confidence in myself to post what you had said about this beautiful error on coneca ,Mr. Diamond.I started to reply several times with what I had understood you to have said but it never sounded like what you just said.Every collector except you has told me this is a fake and several have even been very rude to me about it.Not here, but in private conversations and emails over the past few months.Sometimes I feel so stupid I feel reluctant to post anything anymore. |
I didn't mean to undermine your confidence. When in doubt, just copy and paste.
You wouldn't be the first collector to have had a genuine coin rejected by people who are only familiar with run-of-the-mill multi-strikes. You can go back to them with this information and give them the old "neener neener".

Hey Carol, At least you have a great find....I'm still feeling stupid! But hey if you don't ask, you won't know. I will contine my posting until I find something more than a machine doubling!...Or until they ban me! Hey if we do not post, there would not be anything to talk about & we might have something unique and not know. You go Girl Many thanks to those who are willing to share their knowledge without insulting our intelligence!!! "neener neener".

Hey...I learned something too! Although I didn't reject this all together, it had me fooled. As a few folks have already said...we learn here, and I for one am not one who thinks he knows everything. Hang in there with us Carol...we don't bite...except on Monday's

Carol. I am one of those who said they thought the coin was a fake; It was my belief, however, when Mike said it was real, I did not feel uncomfortable, because I am wrong many times. The different threads will bear me out. I gain from a wrong decision, because I LEARN something new! My comments, or opinions are only that, and not, or were the ever to offend, or degrade. If this has happened, please accept my apology. In spite of the "numbers", I am like many, still a "newbie", and will continue to learn, slowly but surely. I am aware of much I have learned due to those who are kind enough to tell me when I am wrong, andresp[ect their opinions. I suggested you check out "OUR" forum, and you did, so I feel responsible if you have been offended. I can only respond for MY actions, and feel sorry for those who offend, or the ones they offend. Do what you came here for. Post, ask questions, and get the information you seek. There are those who have the answers, as you have seen. With respect to your coin, AND THE LETTER WHICH IS A PART OF THE SCENARIO, I believe you have a very unique coinn, ( at least I have never seen anything similar), and deserve the pleasure it should give you, not only from the source, (your father), but also being the proud owner of such a coin!
Dick

Of what little I know, I admit that coin was a tricky one for me because a few of the strikes looked rather light and I couldn't place it in the context of other coins I've seen. This is where I especially appreciate the input of experts who can explain what happened.
