hi Gabe just viewed the 1944DD . not to rare. how ever i just won a 1944 D over S , not sure of grade ,had bad pitchure and seller posted uncirculated, 3925568638. all so today found a 1972 rev is completey doubled.all letters and building.

I think the idea was that even if that is a doubled die (which it probably isn't) it wouldn't be visible with the horrid condition of that coin. It's worth 1 cent regardless of the fact that it's a wheat cent. Face value because it's in no condition for anyone's collection.

I think I also saw that auction when it was up. And really began to wonder if I had been staring at: a. coins way too long or b. the computer way too long.....

I think the first comment he made "Theres nothing wrong with the scanner" was kind of telling... there is something wrong somewhere.... Reminds me of when I was a kid and I got a 1916 Mercury dime in change that was worn nearly smooth. I stared at the reverse for so long I convinced myself that a minute nick at the bottom left was the remnants of a D mint mark. I still have that coin. I was also fortunate enough to own two real 1916-D's. First was a G-4. Current possession is a VG-10.
