If they want the dollar coin to catch on, dump the production of the $1 bill. Force them into use. Other wise stop production of them. Just another coin tossed into the 50 Cent slot in a cash register to be sent back to the bank as no one else wants them. IMOHO

Yes, put me down for a box of cents from each mint! Now if they get the idea of sending quarters, or half dollars, oh boy, then I'll ask for two of each!

Another nice try from the U.S. mint -- but I'm afraid it just won't fix the problem. I don't know that people "don't want them" or "won't accept them". The fact is, most tellers/cashiers won't even try to give them out as change. No matter where you spend them, it is always a one-way street to the local bank. I think it will take more than people spending $1 coins to make them work for everyday transactions. Something has to break this perception by tellers, cashiers, and others that make change that these coins are not real money. When they can accept that they are just as useful as a nickel, dime, or quarter for making change and are here to stay, then they just might start circualting like the other coinage.
Personally, I think the mint needs to offer a promotion to volume nation-wide retailers (i.e. McDonnalds, BK, 7-Eleven, etc). For example: In the promotion, the mint will supply $1 coins at 90% of face. In exchange, the retailer is prohibited from cashing them in at banks and promises to make a point of training employees to give them out as change. Many of these jobs are high-turnover occupations - and over time, more and more people will get into the habbit of using them.

Make it so you can't buy gas unless you use the dollar coins. Then they would not have enough of them to go around. LOL You know 5-7 for a gallon of gas.

Be like quarters at the car wash. About 50 coins but instead of all cleaned up your all cleaned out.

Any your all dirty and you pockets are picked clean. That is why I use the car washers that do all the work. Cheaper to me that way.

1. Force the vending machine companies to accept them in machines - BY LAW.
2. Quit making $1 paper currency.
simple.

I had a roll to search then decided to spend it.
Everyplace looks at them like they had no idea what they were.
I tried one in a vending machine and it worked. You can put one it then hit coin return and you get a different one back so I kept doing it hoping a smooth edge would come out but most of them were SBAs or Sacs.
Hey here's an idea.... if the mint sells em for 90 cents it might work. LOL
