If it were a cud, the obverse edge of the coin would have weakness in design in that area. Its just a damaged area on the rim. Keep looking.

Here is an example that I found recently that may help. Notice the lack of detail on the reverse oposite the cud at the end of STATES and the beginning of AMERICA.

Steven: Could you also put up an image of the reverse. That would be nice to show what happens on a cud.

Thanks Steven. The 1-2:00 position is the exact way I thought it would be. Because of the broken part of the die, there is no definition of the devices in that area. Now I have a pair of images. Thanks.

here is my pretty 69 cud and i never noticed about a weakness in the back.mine does not seem to have much weakness.
