Hi Mike,
If your referring to the doubling on the 1991, It is Machine Doubling. As far as the 82 I don't know what your showing. What part of Indiana are you from? I visit Goshen Quite often.

Mike,
The D in your 2nd picture look's normal. Perhap's you can explain what you see. Closer pictres would tell better. (Holiday Inn) is a good place to find Lincoln Cents.
Also May I "Welcome" you to the Forum.

as I got a closer view I can now see its where the plating is coming off the insides of the MM. I guess I should look at all angles before asking silly Questions.
Chock this 1 up to experience
Thanks Rhubarb

All I can add is that your 82-D is the Large Date variety which is more common than small date. It might be copper or it might be zinc since they made both in 82. To tell, if it has bumps it's zinc, if you flip it and it makes a zing noise then it's copper or if you have a good scale you can weigh the differance.
There's 7 types of 82 cent plus the proof:
Small date p Zinc
Large date p Zinc
Small date d Zinc
Large date d Zinc
Small date p copper
Large date p copper
Large date d copper
(they never made small date D copper)

Yes, that is what I thought when I first started collecting. Be sure to check the CC website to find the dates and MM that youi have to compare them to.

The mint mark on that year looks like that most of the time. I suspect a bad punch that was used that year to punch the dies. But there are a few RPMs for that year. I've never found one but there are a few listed on the site.
Most of the time you will find varities very rare. With the thousands of dies made that were normal it is just a few that were hubbed so that a doubled die shows. RPMs, they happen more than doubled dies, especially on the 1960-D Cents. Hundreds of RPMs that year and that are just the ones attributed. Many more are too minor, but a great year to train the eye with. That is one year I started to find the most when I first started. One time I got 5 rolls of 1960-D for less than $5 and found $85 worth of RPMs in them not counting the minor ones that are not listed yet. So if you can find OBW rolls of this year, they are very interesting.

Hi Mike, for what it is worth, the copper cents weigh 3.11 grams, and the zinc weigh 2.5 grams The one you posted is a large date, and the small date looks like the '83. Small very round upper loop. If you have a camera that allows video to be sent to the TV, you can use that to compare the sizes. Use a marker pen to outline one, and then compare it to the one you are curious about. It will show, very clearly. Much easier than learning PhotoShop, and making overlays.
