Carol, I can'y say positively, but I would venture to guess that it was barely hit, and flipped over, and got hit again. Then, because the partial strike caused a slight "out-of-round shape", then when it was struck, and then ejected, hung up, causing it to be hit a third time, before "escaping".

It's definitely at least a double strike. The other anomaly looks like it may be post mint damage...maybe from getting caught in a rolling machine or something. It could be some mint damage like maybe from an ejector , but someone more familiar with errors probably needs to make that determination.

Carol, can you get a close-up of that area by "in"? I would like to see what it looks lke. I have one similar, but only a very small part of the edge is involved, and it is very flat. no matking, because it was too far out of the chamber when struck.

If that smaller hit is a third strike (but it might be damage) then I think the coin might be called a saddle strike.
The press was a double press (strikes 2 coins per strike) and this coin straddled between them and got made into a saddle strike.
But I'm not 100% sure, maybe someone can tell if the distance between the 2 side strikes matches the double presses gap. (and if that small hit is realy a 3rd strike) Also all saddle strikes I ever saw were blank then hit by the 2 side strkes (mikey mouse coins) but your coin is already struck. Maybe Mike D. can tell if already struck saddle strikes even exist.
Check this out:
http://www.coinworld.com/newcollector/errors/striking.asp
"A saddle strike is generally not a true double strike, but usually the result of having a planchet fall partially between two pairs of dies on a multi-die press. Saddle strikes have two partial images, and an expanse of unstruck planchet between the struck areas, resembling Mickey Mouse's head with the partial coin images representing his ears. "

It's a double-strike. The area at the opposite pole appears to be post-strike damage. It most closely resembles an indent, but that would be impossible since the coin was struck in-collar on the first strike. It might be feeder finger damage that occurred when the coin was ejected after the first strike. No way to tell for sure.

Carol that was the point I was making when I asked about a close up of the area in the "IN/ONE" area. I was actually looking for a very flat, slightly curved edge, ehoch was damaged by ( from the sunken areas in that same area, form more than likely, the feeder arm, during the ejection process.
