I think the quarter was acid treated Kurt. I have a similar coin. If you look at Fred Weinberg's website, all the examples he has sold are missing the cladding on one side only. I have a Mass. quarter and I found it in 1999. I took it to my dealer and he weighed it and was able to determine the weight was not correct for a coin missing cladding. I was also in the shop when a guy brought one in and he got the same news. If you ever find a real one, they are worth at least $350 - $500.

Question Garry....How did you manage to find a Massachusetts state quarter in 1999 when they weren't made until 2000?
