1983 Penny Date . 9 looks doubled. 8 has die chip I think.Need help on this one.

There's a die chip below the 8. There appears to be a die dent between the 9 and the 8, with two associated die cracks. It looks like machine doubling is affecting those two digits as well.

Carolyn,

If the cent has a bumpy finish like this one you know it's a zincoln without weighing it. LOL

If you see a cent from zinc years without a bumpy finish weigh it.

OH another test... I bet you have good hearing.... try flipping a copper cent and you will hear a zing noise. If you flip a zinc it won't make a noise.

The "3" looks as if there is quite a bit of die deterioration, and the chips more, or less confirm the idea. There is MD apparent.
