I have recently acquired a nice 1955 ddo, it is a mint state coin,(as of yet ungraded) on the reverse the bottom of "it" in united and most of the "am" in america is very weak, the obverse and the rest of the reverse is strong,is this a common occurance? I would post pictures but don't know how, I would be glad to send a photo by email if that would help. thanks Dan[/img]

Hi Dan, and welcome to the forum.
Sounds to me like you have a case of a somewhat weak strike - typically on the reverse the O of ONE and the area you describe are the last to strike up. It shouldn't have any effect on grade unless the coin is higher grade uncirculated, and in that case the grade may be limited to MS64. If the coin is circulated, no worries.

Hi Dan, welcome, if you look in this group, "General Discussion - Die Varieties, you will see a string called The 1955 DDO. Oreville has a picture of the obverse and reverse of the 1955 DDO in MS65 red. It is not a link, the pics are embedded in the message about half way down the email string. Compare yours to that one. I dont see weakness in the reverse strike on that one.

Hi, Dan. Joined a few days ago, was looking through past forum topics, and wondered if your 1955 ddo was die 1 or 2? You said you think it is ms65, it must not be slabbed, did you pay huge bucks for it?
Bill
