For those of you who scan coins (rather than use a digital camera) I have a few questions.

1. What resolution (dpi) do you use? 300? 600?

2. How do you scan copper/bronze? My attemps invariably end in a black circle. What am I doing wrong? I have an HP ScanJet 5100C and it works great for paper.

3. What model scanner do you use?

thanks for your help/ advice.

I haven't done it in years, but I found that using a dark background and the highest DPI setting you can handle (speed of system, capability of scanner) is best. The dark background helps to offset the contrast of the darker metal. You can tape a piece of construction paper to the inside of the lid of the scanner to take care of this dilemna.

I have a Epson Perfection 2400 photo. For saving images to my computer I go to 2400. Then in Adobe elements I can zoom in very close. I wish I knew how to make a scanner pick up cameo.
I did just pick this up for my stereoscope. I havn't received it yet but I'll let you know how it works out. My problem is learning to post pics to the internet.

joe yuk
Please let me know how the Motic software works. It looks good but is expensive and I have been wondering about it.
I am looking for software that will put a larger image in the monitor than the 1/4 size that I can get now.
Thanks

Joe, when you post a picture in a forum, have you tried using the "IMG" code? In case anyone don't know, you can enclose your picture's URL in the IMG code to get it to "show" under your posted messge. All you have to do is click on Img in the list atop your reply page. Then type in the URL of your image. Then click on Img*.

that of course is only if your webhost allows it... for me i use geocities and they dont allow direct linking pictures.. so i just make a quick 2 second webpage to throw the picture on and give the webpage link instead...

there are image hosting sites out there.. some are free some you pay and some have trial periods were you cant go over 5 mb and you can only use .jpg... doesnt really matter any of them will work...
