Does anyone here have examples of the High vs. Low 9 in 1960 D Large Date and Small Date. I have several 60 D's that I haven't touched yet and a good example of both would come in handy. I know Dick has mentioned these coins before but until I noticed that they were listed in a price guide I didn't think they were that noticed. Any help would be appreciated. David

I think if they listed them in a price guide as "high and Low 9" that means they don't know what they're talking about.

I think they meant large vs small date 1960-P and 1960-D, on the LD the 6 and 0 is larger and the 1 and 9 is maybe slightly larger. The best PUP is the top of the 6 is longer on LD and 0 is bigger.

If that isn't correct I'd be surprised and want to see a pic. Wink

I have been just sitting on this for this very reason, I don't know what to look at, or for, and was hoping someone knew, and would make a comment, or clarify, so we all knew. It is listed that way, and I was surprised to see it. I have no info in this respect. The only way one could be sure would be thru some overlays, I imagine.. Of course, if somebody has some examples, then it would not be as clear as mud!

I would have to see examples of this proported 'high and low 9' to believe they exist, unless this is some odd way of noting large and small date 1960 cents.

For there to be two different versions of 1960 large date cents that are not yet widely known would be a chance in a million. This date is so overstudied at this point by dozens if not hundreds of people who notice the most minute of details, it would highly surprise me to find out that there's something to them that nobody in the die variety circle has ever noticed.

I tend to agree with Ed's and CC response. This came out of "Coins" December issue. I do beleive they are refering them to a small date vs large date coins. It is very confusing sometimes to pick up on what there printing until a the question is asked. Thank's guy's.

It is also posted in Coin Prices: 1960 small date, low nine. 1960 large date, high nine. Same with the 1960-D, and the 1960-D/D, small over large date.
I use the issues for inventory purposes, and That is what drew my attention. I looked at a bunch of both large, and small, but didn't notice the "9" being high, or low. Maybe
I should use an over lay.

Okay, I'll clear it up....

They are called 'small date' and 'large date' - nothing else.

Anyone who calls them anything different is trying to insert their own jargon into the industry and should stop. NOBODY refers to the 1960 date sizes as 'high 9' and 'low 9'.

Thanks, Chuck, for clearing that yp. I am normally confused, but that "high/low 9" had me totally confused. Thanks, again.

outing, where ever you are, to help me celebrate my birthday!

Bob, I have some more coins that I'll be sending your way. Just let me know when it is convenient. No Hurry.
