that money belongs to the home owner and the contractor should loose his license for being so greedy. he was there to do a job and get paid for it. if he found the lady's pocketbook under the couch would he expect to share the money in it? what a dip

I wonder whether they just deposited the money in the system or whether they sold the notes as collectibles. The loot would be worth far more sold as collectibles.

In Mexico, it would have been turned over to the Government, end of story, and f"find". The Philosiphy there is the same as mine: "Finders- keepers, losers weepers". They should have taken better care of the "loot"! The finder(s) should have kept their mouth SHUT! The old adage about "loose talk" can get you in trouble!

yea but your missing the point here
the man was hired to do a job period. he was to take a wall down and make a doorway or something like that but when he opened the wall there was the loot. it clearly belongs to to owner of the house that hired the man to do the job. if he had kept his mouth shut that would be theft outright. i think the man should loose his license and be put into every paper in the US so we can keep out eyes on the guy and NOT hire him to do a job for us.

All understood, but if the guy hadn't done the job, the money probably wouldn't have been found. I'm not saying he rightfully deserves any of it, but a tip wouldn't have been inappropriate.

If I had found wads of $500 bills in someone's house, I would be rather perterbed if they didn't offer me a couple of them.

I agree with you Chuck but this guy is demanding half. this story is over a year old and i have been staying close to it just to see where it ends up at. I think that tax man is going to get his share too but if they had kept their mouths shut and he was satisfied with what she offered him they would both be very happy right now

Putting myself in the guys position, Yes, I think he should have been offered a "finders fee", a small part of the total. but his greed , her greed, and the fact that neither of them has any consideration of others worth, makes the point moot. The tax man, and the Liscencing bureau should bith have a say. I suspect the license would be terminated, ( justifiebly so, and apooilbe evasion of taxes sought against her. Then there is the "hiding" od the money. I don't know just when "income tax was iniciated, but if it was anytime close to the "hiding" of the money, then the "family" also should have a "day oin court, (tax evasion, that is). Too many wrongs, and none add up to a right.

she didn't put the money there Dick. it was there when she purchased the house. so in all fairness they should look up who owned the home in the year that most of the money is dated and give it to the family as i am sure the original owner is long passed. but there is family. the money was put there to hold for hard times and then the home was sold without even knowing the money was there. so all you guys that hide your money in the walls make sure that at least one person knows it is there. it would have saved this pair of dummies from a lot of headache.
but i still stick with my first point.
the money belongs to the homeowner.and i would think that no matter how much she gives this clown he still wants paid for his time and that is fair but the money aint his and he should find a new line of work cause i doubt he will find work in that town again
