Just had to show this one off, the pic doesn't do it justice! It's very shiny, I'd say AU? Actually the lettering is very thick on obverse, is that normal? I know there are some canadian buffs out there! I'll shoot it through the scope later.

Very nice, I like the George V coins. You said "shiny" that is a buzz word for polished. Hopefuly it is not polished! My local B&M always has a handful of these on the bid board. Thats where I got this nice 1921 Aussie threepence. It is in the 1921 Canadian threepence topic in the General Discussion - World Copper section

Yes I see the difference Garry. I know I didn't polish it. I just found this stash of about 30 world coins I put away about 20-30 years ago, when I was waitressing.

That is really cool and in nice condition too. I have a bunch of canadian nickels I need to go thru for a friend. I imagine there are alot of George V coins in there. I will post a pic of one here if I find one.

Very nice coin! These kept their brightness over the years since they were basically 100% nickel. Going by the grading standard that uses crown band details, I might grade this VF35, unless that last pair of pearls wasn't captured by the photo. I also see a little wear on the brow, mustache tip, beard, regalia, and high points on the reverse. I know how photos don't show everything, and it could easily be a weak strike, so this could be a solid XF45 coin. Well, you probably didn't ask for my grade, did you? sorry.
The obverse lettering is interesting, especially if you find some notching in the serifs or other signs of a DDO.

I got the impression that the rev is MD Everything is shifted the same direction, amnd degree.. It would be nice, if I am wrong!

No Dick the reverse is just very "pronounced", I guess would be a good word. When I get some time I'll shoot it through the scope. The 1930 top half seems to be struck lighlty? The obverse is very pudgy...LOL getting smarter by the minute

Nice coin

I have a handful of these George V nickels and George V quarters in the little hoard I am going thru. All circulated. The wreath reverse on the quarter is pretty cool.

All the Pearls intact! Is this normal lettering, seems fat & may be seeing some splits? Also is that a die crack through Georg's name? Just showing the reverse, because they was questioning.
Thanks, Tery
Go Bucs!!!

Tery,
Nice photos! I see the fat lettering too--die wear perhaps? I'll guess that 100% nickel planchets were hard on those dies. I see the crack through GEORGIVS too. In terms of pearls, I was referring to those just below your photo in the crown band. The wear I see on the top band suggests a VF. Nice coin!

Hi Tery,
Happy to help on grading George V coins...a series I specialize in
Here's a pic showing the crown pearls which determine an XF grade--unless obscured by a bad strike. Both the top/bottom crown bands and the two pearls should be defined for XF40. This particular coin should grade XF45-AU50. This here is an Australia large penny, but the standard applies to any George V coin, excepting the Aus threepence and Canada 5c silver, which are often obscured by poor strikes.
