Mike, I can't see well enough to be positive, and my memory is not that good, but I don't recall ant DDO in the '70-S. My im[ression is MD, and/or DDD, Die Deterioration Doubling.

Actually, there are 19 doubled dies for 1970S on the site. In this case though, there is little doubt that this is mechanical doubling. 1970 was yet another year where MDD is common.

Bob, I didn't know there were, are that many different ones. While I have never had more than one or two, to check, I have never had the ocassion to pull upmthe data base on them, so.....
BTW, I have been working thr '58-D's, and with my "new tool", I have been getting good results. I don't know if there are any new ones, but I have found severaal known dies. I have one that may be a new one, because it is not shown, other that as a possible mate to a DDO. I'll include it in the next batch.

One of the rarest DDOs is a 70-S.
That coin posted isn't one, the clue is the same doubling is on the MM as the date. That year the MMs were punched after the die was made so if you see it the same on both it was caused by die wear or the strike.
58-D is not a good year for DDOs but there's some RPMs.

Ed, youi're right, there are only four, three DDO's, and the DDR. One of my '58's is a very good match for the obv of the DDR. There are some very small differences in the group. I've pulled about a dozen RPM's , so far, and there are some that don't fit anything. Those are being set aside.
BTW, Bob, I just read your werite-up in Errorscope. NICE! I have about 5 tubes of teens to go thru, and there are several '17's There are 34 mixed P-D-S. One 'S', mostly "P". Maybe it will rub off! These were from 11 rolls, four teens, and 7 mixed wheats.

Good luck onthe search Dick. Although finding two in two rolls is unlikely again...just finding one of them will make your day!

Hi Bob!
Just as I expected, nothing turned up, in the '17's. I did find the 1956D-1OM-002. It was the first coin out of the roll! I posted it, and although the pictures are pretty bad, the little projections are visible. It will be another od the next batch going your way. Now that I am "almost ready to continue; I had to cook a batch of IHC LWC, abnd two CANcents. I used Goo-Gone, and Bi-Carb of Soda, in the procedure. I see where the Verdigris is apparently "melting", because the waty it looks, as tho it was slowly melting, or disolving, maybe, but it is still very hard to the touch. I am going to try another batch, and procedure to see if that is caused by one of the things I am doing. If so, I'll find out what, and increase the v"olume" to see if it works. I can't hurt culls, so I p[rocede without impunity.
Now for my position on cleaning: I think it is up to the individual, however, A coin that is filthy dirty, hides many secrets! One of them could make someone very happy, even wealthy! It seems "EYE appeal has a lot to do with the grade, and value of a coin. So it becomes necessary to find out just what you have. That means only one thing. Cleaning. Do it, and with care! The nicer coins that have been "around the horn", woill show the mileage, and wear & tear. So why noy clean it upm and make it look nice? Obviously one is not going to do anything to a coin that is MS! the point is moot.
Dick
