I had a few folders so I picked a few semi keys from $1 cull piles people offered at shows that filled some holes. No pretty ones here LOL:
Junkpile 1873
Junkpile 1872
Even Junkier pile 1872

Nice finds! Did you notice your 1873 is the closed 3 version? Looks like it to me at least. Mintage is estimated around 2.5M.

I also think it's the closed 3.
LOL we won't know if it's a doubled liberty since there isnt any liberty or barely feathers and the only thing left of the motto is the U.

I think the date on your '73 is too close to the best for the DDO, but at this point only God knows for sure. Course, you might find a "believer" on eBay...just show an arrow pointing to nothing at all. j/k.

Ed, when you get ready to dump that can with the "junk" in it, let me know. I have a lot of holes that the junk would fit into!
"I buy old junk, new junk, any kind of junk"! You should see some I have!
Kurt, you have eyes like an Eagle! You spot stuff that doesn't even show a clue! Keep it up!

Dick, thanks... I have microscope eyes.
You know, I've done photo analysis for NASA...I'm used to tracking objects by almost a single pixel or film grain.

Kurt, it has been a while since this thread, but in the meanwhile, i have also learned your vision is VERY good, and your 'tracking", is like a Polar bear! They smell "Food", up to a couple miles away, I hear!

Dick,
Thanks...there's a truth there. I do have a "hunter's instinct" in whatever I look for.
Speaking of IHCs, I found a 1878 in a 2x2 at the last show at VG price, and I had a hunch it was undergraded. I got it under some good light, and it turns out to be a VF20. I love moments like that--happy friend too!

Kurt, that is what it is all about! The "hunt"!
