More recent finds...

A possible 1999 P PA 25c DDO (not the earlobe this time)

A possible 2004 P Michigan 25c Doubled Earlobe

A bold 2008 P Alaska 25c die clash

If you have any unlisted 'State Quarter' finds, please add photos of them to this post. It is always good to know what to look for.

Ken, Those are nice shots. It leaves nothing to the imagination! If I live long enough to find a AK quarter, or a HI, I will be much older than I am! I'm just getting AZ quarters, and only from circulation. My bank just found some Idaho quarters. The teller in the vault saved it for me!

Alaska quarters are all over the place here. Hawaii just showed up a few days ago. One of my branches has nothing but new Hawaii rolls. I just got a batch to search tonight (I couldn't do a box though -- way to boring to search the same design coin after coin).

Since I've started searching circulated quarter rolls by the box, I've been amazed how often I come across bright UNC coins for just about every 'State Quarter' issued. Yes - most of them show lots of normal wear and tear. But every couple of rolls, I see a nice shiny problem free coin and find it is not the new issue -- but often several years old. Eventually, I started puting them aside rather than cashing them in.

This past weekend, I sat down with my 3 daughters and we filled each of their State Quarter books from these circulated roll finds. I bought the books 8 years ago but the girls were too young to be interested. We had a great time filling them up - and they look pretty darn good for coming from mostly circulated rolls.

Ken, that is the way I have gotten my solid-date, roll set of the State Series. I used to but a box of quarters, and go thru them, and "full the tubes", set up on a board that holds 45 tubes. Yes I know, there are 50 states,. but I could only get 45 holes on the board! now that they are all filled, I can move them out, and set up a new line. I try to also buy a solid, BU roll iof eash date, and State, as I go along, but my bank is not rela hel[ful. so there are gaps. I still go thru the boxes, and pull a yobe to see if there are any bad coins. If there are, they get replaced from the nice ones that are coming out. I used to go thru the half dollar boxes, too, but there is opnly junk, so I returned them to the bank, and got quarter boxes instead.
As far as going thru a box of solid date rolls, yes, that could be very boring, no matter what shows up! I get enough of that in the wheat, and Memorial rolls. The one thing that does help, is after going thru a box, I will have every coin in a tube with date, and MM separate. These I box, and will go thru them alter, as the diggerent finds, are posted, I go thru a roll of that date. Could even get lucky!

Logging another find... 2008 P Arizona 25c DDO - a decent double earlobe.

I actually found two of this die variety over this holiday weekend in separate batches of rolls from my bank. This is the first time I found another example of the same variety in circulated quarter rolls. Hopefully this is a sign that this particular variety was released in numbers to my area.

Ken,
The Pennsylvania DDO is just like the one I found this week. I am pretty sure it is a legitimate DDO. I am still going through mine, but I should have some more to add to this thread soon.

Bob

That is nice to hear that you think the PA 25c variety I show above is a DDO. Since it is different than the other more common 'earlobe' type, I just was not sure. I did check for a possible clash -- and a similar mark may occur from the drapes in the woman's clothes -- but near as I can tell, such marks would be more vertical. Plus, there is no other sign of a clash - so I kind of ruled that out.

Are you planning on sending your recent finds to Wexler? If your example of this PA coin is better than what I have, I'd prefer that you send in your example. Mine is slighly circulated. Plus - I don't like to send it more that 5 at a time and I'm pretty sure I have more than that to send in at the moment.

FYI: I found another very minor PA DDO last night (also from the Philly mint)...

I was barely able to photograph this one -- but my rule of thumb is -- if I can get a good photo of it, it is a keeper.

Sandra, Yes, they are great! I wish I could get mine to come out, even half that good, and I would be happy!

Thank you Sanda and Dick. I try. It has taken lots of practice, but I am getting the technique down. You may be surprised to learn that I do this with only the basics. So as not to stray from topic in this thread, I did a post about in in the 'Photo Help' forum. Here is the link...

In all the 25c rolls I've searched in the past few weeks, I've been hard-pressed to find any good DDRs. I'd found a few decent Wyoming DDRs early on -- but anything since has been too minor to mention. Finally, I found a good 2005 P Oregon DDR. This one was easy to spot.

Ken,
Rather than post the same results here as I posted in the CONECA forum, I will refer you to those pics of the finds I had so far. Once I finish all the rolls I have here, I will send them to John to look over.

Another new one. This 2008 P New Mexico 25c DDO is better than average -- as the Earlobe DDOs seem to be going. It does not appear to be the one listed on CONECA.

I've been looking for a NM DDR - as listed on Variety Vista. I've seen plenty of NM quarters - but so far, no luck.

since we are on the subject of NC quarters.
this one has always struck me as odd.

the red line seems to show a shadow of the object below it and the blue shows alot of ripling of the bottom airfoil

Thanks
Mike
