I got into the old coin box today to check something out and decided to go over a few coins with a loop. I found this coin with what appears to be a faint 'D' between the dot and the regular mint mark. Could it be an RPM or am I seeing things?
The one thing that bothers me is that if this were an RPM, I'd expect to see at least some part of the upper left serif in the faint 'D' image. It just does not look like the same "D".
Any guess as to the Year/Denomination on this one? Let me give you a hint... This was the only "D" mint coin for the series.

Ken, I am completely stumped, but I will say that the "stuff", just doesn't look like it could be an RPM. You might try a green rose thorn, to clear out the "stuff"!

I do not believe this to be an RPM. It looks like die deterioration as evidenced on the dots around the rim as well.

Your are correct. Since this the 1912-D a semi-key in the Liberty Nickel series, I figured the answer would come quickly. If it were an RPM, it would surely be known and cataloged. I had a feeling it was not an RPM -- but it just looked too much like the 'D' and I had to ask. Thanks for your responses.

The one that looks like a secondary D (to the north) is too small to be a punched RPM.

Notice the lower section of the C at the edge of the photo has a similar effect, that's a clue that it's not an RPM.
