They often crack at the corners of the building.
That one's pretty big.

ok forgive me for being uniformed but......

A die break would cause a "raised" area, such as above, on a coin.
But as in pic 3 it, to me, looks like it kinda wraps around to the edge of the coin. is this possible.

Thanks
Mike

It is very much possible Mike. Remember that a die crack is incuse on the die, meaning a raised line on the struck coin. This particular die was almost ready to break it seems, and the die cracked around the periphery. It wasn't much longer before a cud would had formed if the die crack continued on to another portion of the rim.

Eventually if the die is continued to be used, it can break even more and leave a retained cud. I was looking at a coin once and couldn't decide what it was.

After I posted the image it was brought out that it is a retained cud. You can see the cud moved and the design it miss aligned.

Mike, those breaks are pretty common on the'82, and '83 cents. I have them with a crack from both corners of the "penthouse", and the two base points. They are one of the things I hang on to. No added value, but a nice curiosity factor. Along that, Mike, you will find a very large nuimber of the Statte Series will have a crack that runs across the top of the base of the bust, and many times run all the way to the rim on the left side, clear to the rim.. I have seen a couple that also go from the :pony-tail, down to the rim, as well. I'm sure that if the diees were left for much longer, they would result in a CUD.
