I found this today in a bank roll. It's a 1984 D cent with two cracks/gouges (I'm still learning). Is this a "good one" finally? Most of what I've been finding are deteriorated die examples, so I'm kinda hoping this is one to show off . Hope the pics are good enough to show the detail.

in my opinion i think it just looks interesting so definitely worth showing off
however from what everyone tells me die cracks and gouges don't amount to much in worth as they are pretty common check out my post here
http://www.coppercoins.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4741
that will let you know what they told me about cracks and gouges

It's not a crack. IF they're gouges they're huge and more like die damage so I'd expect someone has seen others like it.
Above the B in LIBERTY it looks like the top of the B moved over. If it's a gouge I don't know how that would happen.
Let's see what others think.

You are correct. The "B" does have a slight tilt.

Well beings no one else has mentioned this yet, to me it looks like gas under the plating. That would explain why there is only one in existance. If there were many more of them, they would have been found by now. Try pressing down on the raised areas with a toothpick?

Hi, I've tried that and it doesn't budge at all. I used a 30x magnification and didn't see any movement.

I see others on the CCF forum commented on it before I did here. But you asked a question about the B that look moved. That may be a die crack in that area? Check and see if that is what it is.

Well, the concensus seems to be a damaged die. Thank you for responding to this thread. I've learned a lot about the processes involved in coin making and am now understanding what could go wrong and the results. Thanks again, everybody.

Ikcandiggit, seems every one was so entheused with the "wonder what is ti", thing, that they didn't welcime you to the forum! I'll do it for me! I thiught it might be a damaged planchet, but the "damage", would be "flattened out, seem like to me.

Ikandiggit, "that's what they all say"! Funnt part,m is that it is true. Here, you can look at the posrts, and get an idea of who the experts are! Don't you believe it! I have high numbers, but most of my posts are just BS! I am a newbie, that is also a very slow learner. You are right, tho, the sight has a great deal to offer, and from what Chuck, (the owner), has said, it is going to be even better! He id moving, or packing everything to be mioved, going mack "HOME! He should be back in operation, about the middle of February.
