About midnight, I was laying in bed, and just about asleep, when I heard a "tearing noise". After checking around, I went outside, and the awning on the porch was folded over on top of the rear half! Depending on the wind, tomorrow, maybe I'll post some pictures. The last recorded gust was 43 MPH, but the instruments reset at midnight, and the reading was only 39 MPH.
We have a high wind alert, and gusts expected to 80 MPH, in, and below Cajon Pass, just north from here, about 6-8 miles. I couldn't sleep, so I posted some "off-center" cents, and thought I might get sleepy, doing this. NOT! It looks like about 20 feet of the awning lifted, and folded over on itself. I'll know in the morning. Never a dull moment!

Some day, when I have a lot of time on my hands, and am bored out of my mind, I might even try to count them!!
I keep them for one main reason, I do not want to search the same coins again...especially in an area like this where all the coinage seems to make the same rounds over and over again.

LOL... Dick, maybe if you set a bag of cents on each corner of your awning then the wind won't peel it back.
A few too many and it might fall in.
Be careful, don't get hurt trying to fix it.

Ed, Thanks for the kind thoughts! No, I won't do my thing, this time. I can't tell where the nail is, and ai can't check my coins witha only one hand!
Bob, If you are going to start counting your coins, I would asuggest you bring in one of those portable scales the troopers use to check the weight of the 18-wheelers! I believe Chuck migh have a set. Check with jhim.
As far as counting the coins, I just finished part of my Canadian coins inventory. The cents will not be counted. I just counted the boxes of square tubes that are in them, (100), and multiply by 50. It took me two dayts, just to list the others!

This will give you an idea if what a little 'breeze can do":
The light fixture you see in the last picture, did not receive any damage;
Enjoy!!!

Coop, with the moon so bright as it was, at 1 AM, it was easy to see! I had just gone to bed, and wasn't asleep, yet, when a "tearing sound got my attention. The pictures were taken the next morning. In spite of the wind blowing, I think the pictures came out pretty good, considering the fact that I haven't figuted out how to use the new camera. I believe the comment I made was not "EeeeeeeeeeeeeK!
Ken, yes it would be an excellent idea, even though our rains are very light, and tend to come from the NW.there is 40' of awning, folded over onto itself. It was an even fold. I'd hate to think what if it had been an angled fold, or worse yet, it had come loose, and flown!

You just have to find that 12" wide duct tape.

I thought those teeth looked familiar! They belong to that old guy that was biting the gal on the neck when she farted, and flew out the window, ( with his teeth)!

I thoutght it was too easy!!!
I am very tired, and dirty, due to the dust that has collected in the gutter section, of the edge. Seems, I was sitting on the sofa, with the wife and dog, when RRRIIIIIIPPPPPPPP! I went out on the porch, and the whole top section had become airborne and went over to the neighbors awning! About the same time as I was expecting the people from the "Oldtimers Foundation", to show up. They were a "No-show". I had spoken with them this morning, and they said one of them would be over today. Well, it didn't happen, and after I saw the awning section on the neighbors awning, I said, SH*T!!! I went out to my shed, and got all the ropes I could find, and started moving the whole thing closer to my storage shed. I finally got it all tied down, and went to my tool shed for some vice-grips, and a light. I had planned on taking it apart with the drill, but it was easier to just "rip 'em out"! I was pretty well into it when the neighbor came home, and stopped by to say "HI"! He saw what was going on, and went into his house and got a pair of gloves. Then we made small pieces out of the sections that were still together. All the time the wind was blowing like hell, ( been averaging 35-50 MPH, all afternoon ).After we were done, I heard a noise,, and looked outside. There was a thin strip, that was flopping in ther wind, and aking noise. I didn't want it to tear away, during the night, so I set the vice-grips up close to the house, and tied an anchor line to them, and to the gate post, (anchored in concrete). It should stay put until they can make an estimate, and get busy. All the part that makes the "sandwich was laying on the neighbors awning! Not entirely on top, but hanging from thr edge of it. I finally got it pulled away, and able to get it tied down.
