I picked this up at a flea market yesterday. After coming home and looking it up,I found several styles and varieties listed.Such as
1803 Small Date, Sm Frac
1803 Small Date, Lg Frac
1803 Large Date, Sm Frac
1803 Large Date, Lg Frac
Can anyone tell which one this is? Confused Confused Confused And possibly which variety. Also what grade and possible value would it get? Also looks like a die break next to the 8 between the 8 0Thank you all for your comments,Ken

Ken: See if this helps?

Note the arrows on the images that match your coin. The price will be less than book because of the quality of your coin. Nice to see an older Cent. Thanks for the peek.

Ken: Try again. After I posted I realized I missed something and had to make a new collage.

Coop, that was fast! I saw your post, and was going to "lift" the frog, and you edited it! LOL! Then I saw the info you tried to give the link to.

Dick: After I posted, then I noticed a mistake so I had to do some more digging.

Grading them is something I'm not up on the older coins. With the rim worn if it were a Lincoln Cent I would say a Good. But the rim may not have been a strong back then. The devices look nice, but the porous look would reduce the grade. But don't attempt to clean it. The surface will fake off and that will be the end for that coin. best to leave it to an expert to see where to go with this coin. I had a coin once that looked great but dark like your coin. I cleaned it and ruined it, so I know what I'm talking about. All the surface flaked off into the bottom of the container. So leave it as it is.

Coop, speaking of "digging", There are times when I have tried to get some crud off the wheats, and it boils down to the end result, the picture portratysd: One can't win, for losing"!
On the picture, lower right corner: What is "eco-is-here.com?

Those diagrams by Coop sure help one distinguish between the baffling 24 die pairs for this year. Laughing Additionally, the position of the 3 in the date against the drapery, as well as the alignment of LIBERTY against the top hair curls helps narrow down the possibilities. Just for fun, I did a look against my Sheldon guide, and it appears to be the S-261: "Wide date, 3 touches bust, large fraction". A R2-R3 in this book. Very Happy
