I have over the years searched more thousands of 1959D Lincolns than I can even count much less remember. I remember seening my first one in July of 1959. I was working in Colorado and never paid that much attention to it except that it was new. For the first time last week I noticed a design difference in this coin that I have missed for over 40 years. There is a different spread between the A and the M in America. At least three different. Close, Medium and Wide. Does everybody in the world but me know about this or is it a new discovery. How could it be new its 45 years old surely some one has noticed it.~lucky2

I would have to see examples of it to confirm it. Sounds interesting though.

I just searched through a bunch of different 1959Ds and I think I can find the same variations. The close A M variation is the least common of the 100 I searched but I came up with 5. I wish someone would tell us these are a rare find but I bet the 3 variations are common.

I havs searched 400 so far and the wide AM seems to be running about 25 to 30%. less than the rest. It is difficult to tell the close from the medium and I am looking for one of those lenses for my sterioscope that has a ruler in it. that may help. The close one seems to be the least in number so far.~lucky2

Lucky,
I have some 59 p&d rolls I am going thru myself now. I'm not understanding. " wide AM seems to be running about 25 to 30% less then the rest " seems to conflict with "The close one seems to be least in number so far."

I think this is a great find and I can't wait to see how the numbers play out. It my wind up being all are common as I have found wide and close in the few I looked at. Joe

Yes, Im interested in knowing if in fact there was a difference in design also. I have many 1959 P and D rolls around my house, and would like to search them for the different reverses if in fact, there is such a thing going on.
