If you (strongly) suspect that the "silver" round is fake, then what do you have to lose by giving it the acid test? It's value would be mainly in the silver content. It may have had some artisitc/religious premium if it were in pristine condition but due to the round's condition there's not much premium now.

If you have it tested and it comes up 100% silver, then great! You know it's at least a legitimate bullion piece with some interesting artwork on it.

If it comes up fake, then you at least know for sure what you have.

Let me ask you this: Did you buy it for the silver content or did you buy it for its artistic merit?

And as for the other coin, it looks like a British coin from the reign of Queen Elizabeth I (1558-1603). You can see "ELIZAB" from 1 o'clock to 3 o'clock on the left-hand image. These coins weren't explicitly dated, but used mint marks instead. These mint marks indicated the year (or range of years) in which the coin was made. The mint mark is the blob at 12:30 on the right-hand image, to the left of the "P" and to the right of the "V"-shaped decoration. I can't tell what the mint mark is, and I don't know how big (diameter) the coin is. If I had to guess, it'd say 19mm which would be a threepence coin.

These Elizabethan coins were minted either by hammering or by horse-drawn machinery. They were not cast. I can't tell if your coins are cast or not. And they should be sterling silver (92.5% silver).

Ok Robert I did the silver test on the Leonardo coin and its silver, but the English coin I don’t think so my sharp blade cut through it like butter and the coin is so thin. The color of the acid test result was a little to much the brown side compared to that of the Leonardo coin that results was blue.

I purchased these coins from a thrift shop that were in a box with other world coins in them. I will post soon the other coins I picked out of the bunch. I did not pay a lot of money for these coins I think. About 20.00 for the whole bunch.

BTW I don’t care about these coins I thought I was getting a deal.
Thanks for your input!

Here is a coin that I received as a gift from an eBayer that bought a coin from me that I gave a discount to.

looking at Geotge Washington's innauguration, and comparing with those in attendance at Obamas, I doubt there were that many people in the whole country!

Here is how you can tell a real fake!

Read the reverse! LOL

Here is a test for silver coins. Cover them with a single ply of facial tissue (Toilet paper single ply will also work) next to a coin that you know is silver. If the coin is not silver, you will see the following result.

In the event one cannot afford "Facial tissue", is it okay to use recycled toilet tissue?

Does that work regardless of toning?

Question

Toning may throw that off. Probably just BU or non toned coins. Silver war nickels are dark so they would throw it off anyway.

I wonder if "Charmin", makes an "Odorless" product? I know they don't make one with "toning".
