Greetings everyone. The following coin was given to me when I was 12 years old by my Uncle. It took me 40 years to finally put it under a scope. I believe it may in fact be a doubled die, but I just am not sure. The tops of the letters (especially the E of AMERICA) seem to show the best areas of doubling, and the U of UNITED is just plain interesting.
This one does not show up in the book I have, and I was wondering if anyone else out there can assist. There are plenty of photos below. Any help would be appreciated.

Bob, my eyes tell me you have a nice doubled coin. But, I would check with Kurt. He has the best eyes of anyone, I think! He finds stuff that don't even show up on a scop[e.

I'm on the fence. Looks like hub doubling, but not as pronounced as I would expect, and not as widespread as I would expect either.

It looks like a doubled die, but I don't know much about Indians anyways.

Dick, thanks...now I have to live up to it!
Rick Snow lists 12 DDOs for 1857, but he doesn't show pics for all of these.
My .02 is the U in UNITED reminds me of FE DDOs I've seen, but other places look less distinct. The notch across tops of letters is interesting too. I'm not sure on the eye, because I usually see doubling also on the inside.

Kurt, I'd say you have already done that, very nicely, along with a few other nations coinage as well.

Why does Longacher doubling come to mind on this one?

Hey guys...I hate to be a stick in the mud about this, but the thread was about the FE cent, and ended up on cameras. Can we please keep things on topic so I can follow this thread without all the extras?? Many thanks.
Coop,
I thought about Longacre doubling at first, but this coin really doesn't have the diagnostics for that either. I am pretty sure it is a doubled die. I was trying to find out if it had already been identified somewhere.

While the "Flying Eagle" cent was a design of Longacre, I do not think that the doubling seen here is that type. It is also not die deterioration doubling, the only other type of doubling to have notching this pronounced. We can rule out machine doubling mostly because of that notching, so that leaves only hub doubling left.
I do have a picture of the 1858/7 small letter overdate which also happens to have a DDO (DDO-001) and the doubling, except for the positioning, is very similar to what Bob has shown. This die has a Class II (distorted hub doubling), while it appears that the one Bob has could be a Class I (rotated hub doubling).
