I was on the Lincoln Cent group on Coin Network at www.ning.com looking around and someone said that James Wiles delisted the 1956 D/S cent a year ago. I dont know who that is. The comment was "James Wiles himself delisted it". Is he the discoverer? ererer... Smile

James Wiles is the attributor of 20th century die varieties for CONECA. And yes, he did de-list the 1956D and S OMM a year ago because overlays could not prove the mark between the 1 and 9 of the date to be an S mintmark.

He also never recognized the other 1956D OMM to be an OMM - it has always been listed as RPM-012 with CONECA.

So this means that CONECA effectively at present does not recognize any OMMs for 1956 cents.

I think they meant that he took it out of Conecas listings.
The one that's delisted is the S between 1-9, they mention it but have comments that it is no longer listed below the RPMs:

http://www.conecaonline.org/content/lincolnrpms19561957.html

http://coppercoins.com/lincoln/diestate.php?date=1956&die_id=1956d1om001&die_state=lds

Be careful!
The other one 1OM-002 (WOMM-001 in Wexlers listings)
Is still listed by most as a D/S

http://coppercoins.com/lincoln/diestate.php?date=1956&die_id=1956d1om002&die_state=lds

The other de-listed D/S is the 1980.
There are some others that experts have questioned like one of the 1951 D/S and the 1952 D/S but I think the listings stayed on most lists for those 2.

garryN, I was checking out the ning.coom, and didn't find the one you mentioned. Do you recall what page it is on. I joined, but in an Italian photography section. I read enough of Italian, to get the drift. I switch to "Lingo" when i work thr French sight, ( Numiscan). If worse comes to worst, I can do the same thing there, but in Italian. I was looking for that section where they were takoing about the coin you mentioned. maybe later, I'll locate it. It is odd that the firse segment I ran into was Portugese, then another in Italian. I "pick up" on languages, so no problem. My Spanish teacher said I have Linguistic abilities. I was an "honor student, but didn't get the "credit as such, because I never did the written homework. I did direct, and literal translations from the paper we used, "La Opinion". I had the highest grade in class, including the Mexican kids. Of course it was a bit easier for me, because I was raised around kids who spoke Spanish, and the workers on the Section gangs were Navajo, Mexican, and american, so it came easy. I forgoy most of the Navajo words I used to knoww A lot od words in other languages, I still remember, but they are not printable!.All in a days work!

http://coinnetwork.ning.com/group/lincolncents

There is the link. The primary host for that group is Tom Matthews, he says he knows you or knows of you, Chuck. I plug Coppercoins.com on there periodically. I also plugged Lincolncent.com on there too

I still think the OMM that is the S between the 1 and 9 is more likely to be an OMM than the other variety. Just my opinion.

And how do I search the site here fro OMM varieties? I cant get there from the date guide... dense Shocked

garryn, This is the second attempt to reply. Some how, I manage to hit a key, (don't ask which, because I don't know, or it would be pulled from the keyboard)! I am not a typist, and when I look up to see if the last thing I said was spelled right, I find a complete new page, that has nothing to do with the subject at hand! and I "pray" a bit.
Anyway, I tried the link, and it is nothing alike that which I found, when I used "ning.com" for the addy, (address), I get email from "Hola tu". Does that make sense? The part I refer to is , obviously in Spanish, but there are a whole slew of different languages there, so I didn't pay it no mind. Lost?

For now the best way to find the OMMs is to start fromthe advanced search page. The old, crusty programming in the date guide unfortunately doesn't bring up the OMMs.
