I really do need stop when 5 cups of coffee and too many hard looks at coins drives your family nuts too and wife threatens divorce over my incessant behavior.
In her words "Nobody wants your coins, all you ever do is stare at stupid coins, and even if you do find something, everyone else has the same thing or thiers is better than yours"
When your world is reduced to pocket change, just make sure you fixed all the holes.
I'll be in the cardboard castle under the overpass.

Yes it is heavily damaged . and a variant of 1972P-1DO-001 but this has more rotation CW other things are going on but that will be for the experts.
Not trying to play Guess the Error as some have suggested, but before I suffer hoof IN mouth disease yet Again, and declare my ideas , I thought it better to sit in the corner quietly and color.
I am sending this to a certified expert, and let the coin fall where it may.
The second B is an optical illusion Wish it weren't. What caught my eye was the rotational marks extending from low center to the tail of both 7 and 9. This may also be the reason the date above is almost completely flat. next was the beard in the field below the first. and of course the Elvis Hair.
Displays the Class one markers in memorial and between I and T in United.

How are you determining this is a quote "variant of 1972P-1DO-001" Unquote.
What I believe can be determined by looking at your photos only, is that this is a normal 1972 cent that is mearly very very worn.

I'm no expert like the rest of the people here, but if a coin has 1 marker, it does not make it a certain coin. In my experience here, which I'm grateful for the knowledge given, not everything often appears what it seems to be.
If you want to save some money, send it to one of the moderaters here ( chuck a/o bob). they will not steer you wrong. I have sent coins to them before and respect thier opinions.( as I'm sure others have also). It's a lot cheaper then sending them to have them certified and if it is worth having the coin(s) certified, they will tell you so. I'm sure they will give you other names if you want.

Well here we go again, What I said was i was sending it to a certified expert not that I was having it certified. That may or may not come later. Who he is, is unimportant, that I trust him and his judgement implicetly, does.
As far as sending this or any coin with any potential over what you can afford lose, to a total stranger takes a full load of guts and trust or massive stupidity. I equate what you propose to posting my banking info on the boards. Maybe you can afford a potential loss but I cant. Call me a gutless coward but I will never worry about someone profiting from my stupidity.
I suffer from enough hoof in mouth on my own, please do not attribute words to me that i did not post.
Now as far attributing the coin as a variant, it was sugested that I do a little reading and research first.
Used what is avail. on this site, looked at all 1972P examples and attribution markers for each, to give the best guess of what I have, albiet heavily damaged the guess is the King of all 1972's. What I said was "Displays the Class one markers in memorial and between I and T in United." and possibly more, but due to damage i can't verify it so i did not post it. If you dispute my best guess Fine, the pics show as much justise as my pitiful skills can muster. I hope to post better ones. Then any Proof of an alternate answer and I'll agree with it.
I will admit Here and Now to All... I'm no Expert Photographer or any other S.M.E and will never professed to be.
I do find it fitting that the faint extended mound of copper in front of Lincoln gives the apperance of Elvis Presley's hairdoo.
We all cant find AU or MS coins in circ. and take gorgeous photos to make the critics happy. So all I've done, is bring an ugly girl to the dance. It aint a pretty coin but until proven otherwise its still the biggest in my dancehall.
